So, I'm a left-coast transplant. I come from the tree-hugging, socks-with-birkenstock wearing (fondly referred to as Jesus-cruisers in my family), friendly, laid-back, born with webbed-feet Pacific Northwest. Now, to answer the most common question I get when people find out I am from Oregon living in New Jersey, "Why'd you move HERE?!" - Well, I was itching for a change of pace, I was sick of the fresh air, the daily breathtaking views of mountains and the dry, hot summers. I wanted to move but had just one requirement. I had/have no clue how to pump my own gas. So I set out in search of another state that had one of the greatest conveniences of all time - petroleum distribution technicians, known to most people as "the guy that pumps your gas". Turned out, there was just 1 other state with this seriously under rated amenity - the "armpit of America", good ol' New Joisey.
Before you get all huffy let me just say that I love New Jersey and have been known to defend her as if she were my own to her detractors. I now know - no self-respecting New Jerseyan really talks like "I'm from Joisey"-Joe Piscipo did in those SNL skits back in the 80's. It is the Garden State, not the state that needs to apply a massive dose of Right Guard.
In another life I was a nanny. My life was less "Nanny Diaries" and more like I was a big sister. Last June it was time for me to move on - I needed a "real job". It was hard for me to justify getting paid to take the kids down the shore (thats the coast/beach for all you west coasters) and taking naps when the kids did, with permission granted by the mother of course! I was ready for a challenge, and boy did I get it.
I now work in PR, started from the bottom and am working my way up. I love what I do, it may not be for everyone, but it works for me. I know - us "flacks" get a bad rap, but all it takes are a few bad apples to ruin the barrel. Most of us are just trying to make a living, and provide great service our clients, like anyone else would do. But, as Lavar Burton would say, "You don't have to take my word for it."
